“I might be mistaken
Might be forsaken
That sure could be…”

March & April 1941.
Kurt and Wilhelm are reunited at Panzertruppenschule in Wünsdorf, located roughly 20 kilometers south of Berlin. After graduation, Wilhelm gets orders to join Rommel’s Akrika Korps while Kurt is assigned to the 14th Panzer Division stationed in southern Austria. With no time to return home on leave, Kurt writes a letter to Elisabeth on the train.
Back in Berlin, the euphoric mood of a quick victory has been replaced with the dawning recognition that this war might last a long time. A disillusioned Ursula volunteers to transfer to a military hospital in Poland while Elisabeth works twelve hour shifts, seven days a week. True to her word, she checks in on Moshe regularly whose world has been reduced to the four walls of his apartment.
Kurt arrives at his duty station scant days before the invasion of Yugoslavia, and suffers a minor wound as the recon unit under his command captures a bridge over a river gorge. His quick action secures an important crossing for the rapid capture of Zagreb.
