“Oh, it’s dangerous
It’s so out of line
To try and turn back time…”
~ Christina Aguilera.
April 1965.
April returns home on Easter break and learns that Patrick is also in town on leave. She plans to visit him, but her mother insists that it’s best to “leave sleeping dogs lie” and to move on with her life. Meanwhile, when Colleen hears that April is visiting with her parents, she tells Patrick to wise up and not let her “get away.” Before Patrick can reply, the phone interrupts them with April on the other line asking if Patrick would like to meet.
Ms. Allen finally succumbs to cancer with her funeral held at Holy Angels Catholic Church, just like Aaliyah’s nearly three years earlier. Tamika and Charlie sit in the front row along with Patrick and Frank. During the “mercy meal” in the church’s hall, Charlie and Patrick reconnect and share their experiences while Tamika and Colleen exchange concerned glances regarding their boys’ future.
Later, April and Patrick meet up at Oswald’s Pharmacy for an ice cream. April does most of the talking about life in NYC while Patrick listens. “Vossman” struts in and, spotting them sitting side by side at the counter, mutters a rude remark as he passes by. Just as Pat readies to punch him out, April grabs his arm and pleads with him to calm down and suggests that it’s best if they leave. As he walks her home, Colleen meets with Mrs. Larsen in her home and apologizes for how Patrick’s behavior must have made things difficult for April.
