“Vixen in my dreams, with great surprise to me
Never thought I’d see your face
The way it used to be…”

January & February 2018.
Ronit wants their oldest daughter, Jiya, to star in her first feature film but Samina is opposed, leading to another fight. Jiya, on the edge of twenty-one, yells at her mother for holding her back. With Ronit and the girls out for dinner, a maidservant delivers a package to Samina which reveals Ronit’s shady business dealings. Later, she confronts him with the evidence and he breaks down and begs for forgiveness.
In the classroom, Michael wraps up a lecture on existentialism with a quote from Buber’s “I and Thou.”
Samina plans to auction off one of her paintings for charity after the wedding they’re attending in Dubai. During the festivities she feels ill and returns to her room and stays behind in the hotel after Ronit and the girls return to Mumbai. Ronit returns to Dubai the next day and Samina dies under mysterious circumstances.
That night, Michael sees news of Samina’s death online and the news hits him like a punch to the chest. And then he sees a “shadow” in his room, waiting patiently for him to notice.
Later, Bala and Michael sit on ECR beach waiting for sunrise as he answers the remaining questions she has for him.
