“Well, lift me from the wondermaze
Alienation is the craze
And it’s all gonna happen to you…”
~ The Cars.
June & July 1890.
Vincent paints Marguerite as she sits at the piano, playing her mom’s favorite tune. During their session, Marguerite reveals a family secret about her father which wounds Vincent to the core. Unknown to them, Catherine overhears their conversation and shares the details with Dr. Gachet while Marguerite confides to her diary later that night.
Theo, Jo and the baby make a trip to Auvers and have lunch with Vincent at Dr. Gachet’s house. And though on the surface everything seems fine, Theo picks up on an undercurrent of tension at the table. After their meal, Theo takes a walk with Vincent and inquires if everything is okay between he and Dr. Gachet, and though Vincent doesn’t reveal Marguerite’s secret, he informs his brother that they shouldn’t count on Dr. Gachet for anything.
After Theo and Jo return to Paris, Vincent is informed by Catherine that he’s no longer welcome in the house but is free to visit the grounds to continue painting. While a devastated Marguerite watches from her bedroom window as Vincent leaves, her brother Paul is delighted by the turn of events.
