“I feel stupid when I pray
So, why am I praying anyway?
If nobody’s listening…”
~ Demi Lovato.
September & October 1993.
Still working the night shift at Barr associates, Michael gets a call at work from his Cassie. Ostensibly checking in prior to his graduation from ITT Technical Institute to see if he’s going to attend the ceremony, she asks if he’s currently seeing anyone. Michael lets her know that he will not go to the ceremony, and that he isn’t seeing anyone at the moment. After finishing up his shift, he swings by Gary’s house and tells him the news of her call. Gary confesses that he lost his license for a DUI about a month earlier and has been driving without a license ever since. Michael warns him against driving any more, and urges Gary to call him if he ever needs the use of a car.
Rajani once again suffers a “fainting spell,” this time in the kitchen of Ronit’s home. She’s found by a maid servant who fetches Ronit since Samina is busy shooting another movie, and he takes her to the hospital. She once again insists that it’s nothing, and despite Ronit’s and the doctor’s protestations she checks herself out of the hospital.
While running errands with his car, Gary get blindsided by a drunk driver. When police arrive on the scene they fault the other driver, and reassure Gary that driving on a suspended license isn’t a severe infraction. An ambulance takes him to the hospital, but before a doctor can examine Gary, he leaves and walks the streets until midnight.
The next morning Michael receives a call from Sue that Gary has taken his life.
