“I’m gonna smash down all your plate glass windows
Put a fist, put a fist through your steel-plated door…”
~ The Rolling Stones.
July 1935.
Moshe, with Kurt’s help, finally closes the shop. Kurt feels sad to see his second home emptied out, but Moshe tells him that nothing lasts forever. The next day they visit Mrs. Altmann in the Bavarian Quarter to have lunch with Mrs. Altmann. During their lunch at a cafe on Kurfurstendamm, Kurt expresses concern about the rise of antisemitism. Moshe tells him not to worry, while Mrs. Altmann shares how Fritz is preparing to move his business to England. Meanwhile, Elisabeth is busy at the hospital as she nears completion of her training.
Later that night, riots break out along the entire length of Kurfurstendamm, with SA troops dressed in civilian clothes. While the police watch, people are dragged from their cars or attacked for “looking Jewish.” Elisabeth treats the wounded at the hospital, including Mrs. Altmann. Moshe and Kurt finally arrive, and she urges Moshe to leave Berlin as soon as he’s able.
