“Do you need a friend, would you tell no lies
Would you take me in, are you lonely in the dark…”
~ Billy Squier.
October & November 1963.
Tony walks out on Liz. Meanwhile, April has become noticeably withdrawn, and no longer participates in school activities. Discussing her change in behavior at the table, her mother (Anne) blames it on Patrick and expresses anger that Colleen takes up so much of her husband’s time at church. The Pastor reminds her that when they arrived in town everyone welcomed them with open arms, and suggests to his wife that they should do the same.
Colleen arrives in LA just as Liz suffers a terrible accident and loses her baby. Colleen later phones Gus and confides that maybe it’s for the best, which Liz overhears. Back in St. Louis, Ms. Allen is diagnosed with cancer. Frank checks in on her now that Charlie is away, serving in the Army.
Meanwhile, with Colleen out of town Anne and the Pastor invite Gus and Patrick over for dinner. Gus hesitates but agrees. During dinner, April invites Patrick to join her for a walk and shares about when her younger brother died and how difficult it was to get over his loss.
