“And I can’t watch anymore
No more denial
It’s so hard to lay down in all of this…”
~ Peter Gabriel.
May & July 1934.
Kurt wins the final race of the season. As he celebrates with Elisabeth, Heinrich approaches and informs Kurt that they expect “good things” from him in the future. Meanwhile, Oskar and Anna are expecting their first child. However, he turns down an assignment to spend time with Anna since she’s not feeling well.
Kurt visits with Moshe and shares his concerns about Heinrich and the changes taking place on campus. Moshe tells him not to worry and says that these things happen from time to time and should blow over soon enough. Meanwhile, Wilhelm fights with a co-worker at the lumber mill over his failure to join the Nazi party. During the scuffle, Wilhelm cuts off the man’s ear with a sharp knife.
During the Night of the Long Knives, Heinrich and his henchmen break into Oskar’s apartment and drag him away. As Anna pleads for his life, Heinrich promises to return for her to finish what he started years ago. As news reaches Kurt, he sprints over to Anna’s apartment only to find her gone.
